Product Inspiration: Maternity Journal
The creative idea behind this Maternity Journal Album came about over coffee at Starbucks. My friend and client, Terri, had just found out she was pregnant with her third child. As a photographer, I am always looking for new trends and ideas to inspire my work. I had noticed a few internet blogs featuring maternity photo journals and Terri’s announcement sparked my creativity.
My goal was to capture a mother-to-be’s thoughts and feelings via photographs throughout her pregnancy. The end result would be in print for her son or daughter to cherish for the rest of his/her life.
Terri’s Maternity Journal was created over the course of 27 weeks. We met once a week at my home where I would photograph her with props. The props would be incorporated into a story or note she would write weekly to her child. After week 27, to conclude the project, we had a more formal maternity session with her husband and children.
